Was curious to see what my first run on Nike+ looked like. Yikes!
This was after I had been trying to run for about 6 months already. In July 2011 I fractured my tibia. Got back in the game in March. So It’s taken a long time to get this far, but hey, it’s happening. It’s nice to see how far I’ve come, and exciting to think about how far I have to go.

Hey thanks a lot, Nike. What I thought was a 5k is actually 2.5 miles. I run this same route regularly thinking it’s 3.1, finally I mapped it out myself and discovered it is very much not.
So alright, my Friday sucked since I thought I did 3 miles. Rest of the week went alright but of course a 16 mile goal is very attainable.
Next week will be fun, hope the effects of the hurricane are not too bad here. Looking forward to more runs this week with my boyfriend, it’s just more fun with him :)
So begins Week 2 tomorrow. Still feeling like I could be putting more miles in at this point and I didn’t need to start with such an easy mileage. Though this week/next week are the craziest for me at work throughout the entire year, so probably won’t hurt to take it easy.

PR on 5k during the earthquake. The shaking makes me faster!

"About 3 years ago one of my best friends was in a car accident. He was paralyzed from the waist down. We run cross country for our high school, and we had always pushed ourselves to be better than one another. Our goal was to beat the school’s 5k course record of 17:51. When he lost his legs and was in the hospital I went to see him He asked me to promise him that I would break the school record. Last Saturday we had our first home meet. On the start line I looked at him and he knew what I was saying. I ran my race and I crossed the line at 17:37. I couldn’t help myself, but I fell at the line crying because I saw him there with his family crying."

right in the feels.

So, just finished up the CVS Downtown 5k with my friend Ian. I was so nervous and it was terrifying standing waiting to start surrounded by thousands of people. I don’t even run 3 miles on my short run days so I thought this would feel relatively easy, but it’s a totally different experience in a race. We lined up at the 30 minute section, ended up finishing at 26:46 (according to Nike+, waiting on official results). We ran pace the whole distance and sprinted the end (which was a hill, ughhhhh). Passed so many people, felt so great. So I conquered my first race! Onward to the half marathon in less than a month :)

things that are awesome:

  • shoulder pain gone. I never put much thought into stretching my upper body for a run, apparently I should have been. Lesson learned.
  • ran with another human being for the first time EVER this morning
  • and he’s sexy

things that are not as awesome:

  • it was 90% humidity and I became a huge baby about it way too quickly and ran like a fish.

Anyway, really great start to the week :) Couldn’t be happier.

5k pr!

I thought my 5k pr of 27:21 was pretty good until a friend of mine told me last week he would run them in about 17… challenge accepted (not that he even knows he challenged me)

So tonight, new pr: 23:10. Okay, now I feel slightly less horrible about myself for being in a way less embarrassing range.

Really I don’t care too much about my 5k time, this is the first time I’ve ever attempted to actually make a good time, and I definitely won’t be running that pace in the half. Good speed training I guess?

crosstrain day tomorrow.

Okay. I hate mornings. Adjusting to running in the morning is going to be more difficult than I thought. I’m going to take today’s truly horrible 5k time and go ahead and forget all about it, go get my new shoes and get motivated, and do better tomorrow.
